Can I bring animals on my trip?
Pets are also very welcome on board DAT, but please note the rules below before travelling.
- As a traveller, you must purchase a valid airline ticket for your pet.
- Guide dogs, service dogs and police dogs can be brought along free of charge.
- Your pet should travel in a soft case that is waterproof at the bottom or a liquid-tight travel bag that can be fully closed. DAT prefers the authorized “Sherpa Bag”.
- Animals (incl. crate/bag) may weigh a max. of 8 kg.
- Hand luggage dimensions must be observed.
- Bring all necessary documents (export/import and transit permits/health and vaccination certificates) and make any other necessary preparations (e.g. quarantine/veterinary meeting on arrival).
- DAT assesses whether the pet may impact passengers suffering from asthmatic reactions/allergies, for example.
- The captain has the authority to both approve and reject animals for transportation.
- DAT only accepts dogs, cats and domestic rabbits (which are not rodents).
Pets onboard can be booked as an add-on during the ticket purchase process or through customer support.
- You must always request permission to bring your pet on your trip in advance via our customer service.
- You must bring a so-called IATA-approved animal transport box to guarantee safe and comfortable transportation of the animal. It must be waterproof and the bottom must have a water-absorbing mat that fits the size of the box. In addition, the animal must be able to stand upright, turn around and lie down comfortably.
- Note! Steel boxes with mesh wire are not allowed.
- Travellers with animals must bring all necessary documents (export/import/transit permits/health and vaccination certificates) and make other necessary preparations (possibly quarantine/veterinary meeting upon arrival).
- It is permitted to have two animals (max. 14 kg per animal) in the same container, if the animals are used to each other.
- Animals under 6 months of age from the same litter may be transported in the same transport box. However, max. three animals in each box.
